Holy Week - Monday: From Darkness to Light
Embracing the Victory in Christ
Now the time has come for this world to receive its sentence; now the prince of this world will be driven out.
As we begin Holy Week, let us reflect and contemplate the significance of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us gaze at Christ, who gave the ultimate sacrifice and the great victory of divine justice.
Holy Week is more than a commemoration; it is an active participation in the life and victory of Jesus. Through his suffering and resurrection, Jesus does not just perform a historical act; he establishes a new covenant, sealed with his own blood, which offers redemption and light to humanity.
The message is clear: Jesus' sacrifice transcends time and space, bringing the saving power of his death and resurrection into our lives today. By accepting Jesus and His Paschal Mystery, we allow his light to penetrate and dispel the darkness that envelops our hearts and minds. Holy Week offers us a chance to surrender our fears and accept Jesus' transformative power.
May we reflect on the words of the Psalmist:
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me, uttering slanders against me, my adversaries and foes, they shall stumble and fall. […] For He will hide me in His shelter in the day of trouble; He will conceal me under the cover of His tent, He will set me high upon a rock. […] I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; yea, wait for the Lord!
Psalm 27
We are called to a personal encounter with Christ—He is not only the light of the nations but also our personal light and salvation. This week, as we walk through the days of Jesus' Passion, we are encouraged to reflect on the personal implications of his sacrifice and how we are invited to live in the light of his resurrection.
This week’s journey is one of darkness to light, from sin to redemption, from death to life. As we follow in the footsteps of our Lord, let us ask Jesus to experience the depths of his love and the triumph of his resurrection, which brings hope and renewal to all aspects of our lives.
Today’s Mass Collect
Grant, we pray, almighty God, that, though in our weakness we fail, we may be revived through the Passion of your Only Begotten Son. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. and ever.
