May the Shadows of the Night Be Scattered
Collect
May the splendor of your glory dawn in our heart, we pray, almighty God, that all shadows of the night may be scattered and we may be shown to be children of light by the advent of your Only Begotten Son. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
May the Splendor of Your Glory Dawn in Our Hearts
Today’s Collect reminds us that Christ is the true light that vanquishes all shadows.
John 8:12 says "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." The pressures and demands of the world can, at times, fill us with despair, cause us to doubt, and seduce us to walk the path of apathy. The goal of the evil one is to keep us on a treadmill of gloom. Yet, as we journey through Advent and light the candle of the advent wreath, we are reminded of Jesus, the light of the world, who chips away at our brittle edges and brings light into the darkness. A life with Jesus turns despair into joy.
The glory of Christ pierces the shadows and transforms us into Children of light. His coming is a promise—a promise that the sun rises even in the deepest of nights. When we open our hearts, the “shadows of the night” are scattered.
As we approach the third week of Advent, may we receive the grace to be witnesses and light bearers of his radiant glory; there is much joy in sharing the warmth of His eternal dawn.
Let us pray
Lord, et your glory dawn to take away our darkness. May we be revealed as the children of light at the coming of your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen
